In a stunning deep-sea discovery, marine scientists exploring the Pacific Ocean floor have stumbled upon what appears to be a mysterious “Yellow Brick Road.” This fascinating geological formation, resembling neatly arranged paving stones, was found during an underwater expedition near the Liliʻuokalani Ridge in the Pacific Ocean’s Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument.
Upon closer examination, researchers determined that the road-like structure is a result of ancient volcanic activity. The distinctly rectangular cracks in the hardened lava are due to thermal fracturing, a process where lava rapidly cools and splits into angular formations. While it may look like a path leading to the fabled city of Atlantis, it is a natural wonder shaped over thousands of years beneath the ocean’s surface.
This discovery adds to the growing fascination with deep-sea landscapes and unexplored marine geology. Scientists hope further exploration will uncover new insights into the geological history of Earth’s ocean floors.
